Marisa I. Montenegro is a Senior Associate at AGC handling education, school district, and public agency matters.

 

Prior to joining AGC, Ms. Montenegro worked as an educational attorney representing school districts. Ms. Montenegro specializes in special education law, having much experience representing school districts throughout the state of California. Ms. Montenegro has represented school districts in special education due process complaints, resolution sessions, mediation sessions, drafting settlement agreements, as well as participation in IEP meetings. Ms. Montenegro is also an experienced presenter, providing trainings and presentations in the areas of Title IX, sexual harassment prevention, least restrictive environment, and IEP compliance. Although her current practice focuses on education, Ms. Montenegro also has experience in representing clients in administrative hearings for social security and disability matters.

 

Ms. Montenegro began her career in education, as a special education teacher. She currently holds a Master of Arts Degree in Special Education, as well as a mild/ moderate teaching credential. Ms. Montenegro earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English at UCLA. Ms. Montenegro earned her Juris Doctor from Whittier Law School, where she also earned a certificate in Children's Rights. During law school, Ms. Montenegro was a client advocacy volunteer at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall, a volunteer for Children's Adoption Day, and a zealous advocate for students with disabilities at the law school special education clinic.
